IAMSOUND’s rapidly gained national and international stature since I first wrote about them in 2007, as a part of an article on the next generation of Los Angeles bedroom indie labels. But their most recent release series, The LA Collection (described at length here), represents arguably their most ambitious project yet. Recruiting some of the city’s finest talent including Local Natives, Fool’s Gold, and uh, that band that the guy from The Notebook plays in, the series helps to explain why I find myself mystified that I no longer loathe my hometown. Weird.

Released today, the second installment is a 7″ split from Rainbow Arabia and Nosaj Thing. Predictably, the latter steals the spotlight, continuing his reign with a woozy, stoned and deceptively melodic song called “Night Crawler.” Indeed, the tune lives up to its title, conjuring a nocturnal and narcotic slink through an imaginary world full of shadows and sharp knives. Consider it blunted beat noir.
