Considering that this is ideal New Year’s Eve party music, it seems wrong to post this at the stroke of midnight.  Then again, the weekend has only just begun. Consisting of odds and sods excised from The Knux’s forthcoming sophomore Interscope effort,  Fuck You spans everything from anti-floozy raps over breakbeats, to electro-synth pop aimed at the Playhouse crowd, to introspective indie-rock weedhead laments, to dusty psychedelic rap. Not everyone will like every track, but there is something for everyone, irrespective of personal preference. No matter what style they inhabit, the protean brothers from the N.O. display a rare versatility and preternatural skill at song-craft. Don’t expect a coherent statement– that will come later. Expect five well-constructed and catchy tunes that sound ideal after a minimum of five drinks and surrounded by a bevy of pretty women. If that’s unfeasible, I recommend a fifth of Jack Daniel’s and the Smoking Section’s Cooler Retrospective.  Happy New Year.
