Billy Stewart – “Cross Your Heart”

If you’re anything like me and have been waking up with Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C” in your head every morning since the CDQ leaked, you’ve probably wondered what the sample source was for Just Blaze’s brilliant beat. Since we here at Passion of the Weiss aim to solve your problems of head, heart and podiatry, the answer is “Cross Your Heart,” a 1967 single from the rotund Chess recording artist, Billy Stewart, a former confederate of Bo Diddley who died at the untimely age of 32 when the car he was driving plunged into the Neuse River in North Carolina. Now that that’s been settled, please send in your questions pertaining to bunions, corns, and sundry flat-foot related issues.

He also did “We Will Always be Together,” which was used for Ghost’s “Be This Way.” Banger.

There are really only a few guys (or gals) you would want to hear flow on that beat. And Jay Electronica absolutely bodies it.

    Dear Perfesser:

i think i sprained my ankle when i foolishly tried to transition from Strokin to Jerkin. i’m relatively confident i’ve pissed off the ghost of Clarence Carter in the process. Plus, now my trousers are a mess. As i’m sure you’ve probably already guessed, my question is this: when do you think the world will see another Bob & Doug McKenzie flick?

    Kushedly yours,
    Confused by the Terminology

I’ve listened to the CDQ everyday, at least 3 times per day since it dropped. Sheeit, I listened to the radio rip 3 times a day waiting for the CDQ. There is no other choice for #1 track of the year, we all share the same opinion. Keep up the good work, it’s much appreciated, I just don’t have the time to do what you do, good looks.
