Hip Hop Hits (1990-2004)
In the quest to defend his thesis that great hip-hop is on the decline, Ivan of Hip-Hop is Read crunched the data from the Best Rap Albums of the Decade list to come up with an awesome bit of rap nerditry,. While I’m not certain if I agree with the conclusion, it’s a fascinating post that dovetails nicely with these YouTube videos compiled by RetrohitsTube.
Below the jump, all the Biggest Hip-Hop/Rap Hits of 1990-2004, separated out by year in chronological Order from January to December, based on the months that each song peaked on the Billboard Charts and when each song received the most radio play. If you’re looking to kill the next few hours at work, this is much better than Snood.

With all due respect but this simply replicates the same basic polling biases of the original voters. We would already tell there was a clustering of voting towards the front part of the ’00s - you don’t need to use Excel spreadsheet to see that. It doesn’t prove anything and I’m a bit shocked that anyone who takes statistics seriously would even deign to offer up any definitive conclusions about hip-hop’s general “quality” based on a pool of data that most people would agree was too narrow to be anything but an echo chamber of like minds.
I like nerd science but I dislike bad science.
