i wonder what Lamont's opinion is of Snoop's debut.

as for Luda, regardless of what approach he should take to his new music, i thought his last album failed mainly for the same reason almost every Southern rap album last year did. namely because the production was generic as hell. no classic hopes involved.

I disagree with that assessment completely Tray. I think a mature Ludacris, while maybe not preferable, was inevitable. If he did the opposite to what he's doing now -- more "Move Bitch"/"What's Your Fantasy" -- it would be contrived and dishonest. Look at Busta's Back on My Bullshit; it both pandered and bricked. I also don't buy this idea that because Ludacris is no longer great he is no longer good.

"If you didn’t like “Theater of the Mind” and the last tape with Drama, you’re asking for too much from Chris Bridges. We’re going to have to get over the classic album thing with Luda (and probably a lot of other people too.) At this point, his Greatest Hits can go fro to fro with practically any rapper to emerge this decade."

That's nonsense. It's true that you could make an awfully good Greatest Hits of Luda, but when would all these hits come from? Four years ago and prior, probably ending at the fairly lackluster but still mildly amusing 'Pimpin All Over The World.' The last million Luda singles, including Runaway Love, have been crap. (Maybe 'One More Drink' is a kinda-sorta exception here.) No one ever expected Luda to make a classic album; we just thought he'd keep making more Rollouts, Move Bitches, What's Your Fantasies, etc. Today, he doesn't have a smidgen of the entertainment value or sense of humor he used to have. Nor is he, technically, a good rapper anymore; his flows are all very mannered and forced, his punchlines have become mostly mediocre.

I'm just about ready to replace the term Baduizm with Andreizm until dude pulls his head out of his ass and raps about something other than a chick he wants to bang or the clothes other rappers wear.

His flow is still godly but I want to hear his loverman shtick over 80's pop records just about as much as I want to hear Nas sleep through Polow da Don beats.

I feel like that was more the case with Release Therapy but the success of "Runaway Love" validated it.

The problem with Theater of The Mind wasn't that it wasn't a classic album, it was that Luda was trying to make a classic, and lost most of what was fun about him. This was less a problem on the Drama tape. This track is OK, but his voice sounds lower and not quite as energetic as on his best shit. Like I just can't picture him beating up mailboxes with giant popeye arms and rolling with a crew of badass fat chicks to it.
