I like Wavves's music, and I agree with you in terms of what you had to say about the song - but Nathan Williams is the most punk guy in music right now? Give me a break. Getting so fucked up that you can't play and incoherently spewing at a bunch of pissed off Spaniards does not make you a bad ass. I agree with Jared Swilley that Williams acted like a total baby. I respect his opinion because the Black Lips are definitely the most punk guys around today.

Funny - when I was writing the initial comment, I chose "obvious" and then switched it to "cheesy." I meant cheesy in that it was an obvious choice, given the use of "summer" in the title and everything. Pavement is a challenge for me because while I love the music, Malkmus royally pissed me off about ten years ago at a show and I haven't been able to forgive him since.

I don't think "Summer Babe" was too cheesy at all; it's one of the best songs of the 90's. It was, however, too obvious.

I suppose "Summer Babe" (winter version) would have been way too cheesy and perhaps not garage-y enough for inclusion? The song's female in question does wait in the levee wash mixing a cocktail with a plastic-tipped cigar, which seems like a pretty summery thing to do. Props on the Beat Happening nod - gotta love that Calvin Johnson.
