this album and iam's 'l'ecole de micro d'argent' are my favourite; knowing some french, I can enjoy the lyrics too, which are very deep (akhenaton describes themselves as 'architectes musicales')
shurikn's album is dark in my opinion, with heavy beats and very well thought lyrics ... there are times when I play 'samourai' just for its beat ...

congratulations for the article, it's nice to discover that french hip-hop listeners are everywhere

I picked this album up about 4 years ago in the uk, cant remeber where from. It was the first french Hip Hop record i heared and i still rock it regually. I have a half french friend who checks for french hip hop and he put me onto IAM. I wish i could understand the lyrics but the production is out of this world. You dont need to understand words to appreciate the atmosphere of this record!
Thanks for writing the piece

Thanks a lot! My French writing has gotten pretty attrocious after a decade of neglect so I've only written pieces in English actually. Although there's definitely a prime market for a book on French Language Hiphop en Francais given the lack of good information on the scene outside the web.

Satch - Merci Beacoup for the piece. I've just returned to Paris after 5 years in Shanghai and it's incredible how these tracks are still relevant. Have you translated it in French?

Jeff - Thanks a million for the site. This is the stuff that gets me excited about music.
