Oh! The kids nowadays don't know what they are missing with their ipods and mp3 players. A cd is nice, but a mixed tape takes some goddamn commitment. You are looking at 120 minutes of starting and stopping the record button rougly every four minutes. I miss those days. This playlist is great, as is the site which I come by on the recommendation of our mutual friend, Ms. C.L.R.

I'm still laughing at the idea of 'black' and 'white' music. No wonder the kids in jr high thought I was weird--too much of that 'High Fidelity.'

I think you can mix black and white music if you are making a mix with slower ballady stuff otherwise Rob Fleming is spot on about that.

Thanks for the love y'all

The original Somersault was from their 2004 album, the DM remix went online summer of 04 but I don't know if it ever got an official pressing on wax. Interestingly enough, I think this was the first time DM and Doom worked together.

i think an equal part of the problem between making a mixtape and simply loading up a bunch of mp3s is the effort involved. Nowadays, the worst you have to worry about is just finding the music. Back when it was you and a boom box, you actally had to sit through the recording process, lest the track you were trying to record accidentally moves onto to the next one. There was actual time and effort involved in those things. i don't have many mixtapes left, but i've got dozens of mixtape covers still in a box. The actual tape might go bad, but those memories remain money.

With that diatribe out of the way, where did that Somersault track originate? i discovered it a while ago on some sundry blog, but never knew where it came from.
