i'm somewhat conflicted about wavves. i mean, of course i was an early (and very, very vocal) fan of nathan williams, but when i watch youtube videos of his live performance, there's a lot to be desired. i'm not sure if i want to trough through the endless sea of hipsters and seattle music press people when he comes through here, but i'd like to see if these first few weeks of touring improves upon what i've seen through the internets.

i understand the no age comparisons, but i think that, aside from wavves' utterly needless "ambient"/noise compositions, that he's not trying to bite no age in a substantial way. to me, no age makes artfully-crafted punk songs, and wavves merely creates a bunch of catchy bubblegum-punk songs buried in distortion.

Great stuff, Jeff, and impressive stamina. Any kind of music festival I go to these days I seem to spend 70% of the time trying to have a nap somewhere usually inappropriate - perhaps in a port-a-loo; of course, in that case I'm probably not trying - it just happens, as if my body is trying to prove a point. Couldn't agree more on Secretly Canadian: When it comes to review time I seek those discs out of the pile like a fungi-frenzied Truffle Dog, except I don't urinate on them.

Re: Wavvves. Said it before and said it again: his stuff sounds like the middle section of Olivia Tremor Control's "Dusk at cubist castle" without the pop songs surrounding it. Although in his defense, I'm guessing that's what an OTC album might have sounded like had they released one at 22 which makes Wavves an argument for higher entry level barriers in the music industry if you ask me. Call me in 5 years if anyone still cares.

I like the Blk Jks a lot actually - your description is pretty spot-on.
