When Was the Last Time You Watched the Video For Doggy Dogg World?

Exactly. At some point in 1998, this became my favorite song/video from Doggystyle. The amount of money I would pay for bottle service at the Carolina West is incalculable, but only if the Fabulous Dramatics were playing. This is the only way I’d be willing to pay for bottle service. Fuck, I might even spring for Valet. I also wouldn’t mind a friend named Taadow.

For me, Doggystyle > Chronic. This is one of those crucial questions that defines your entire existence. Like Biggie or Tupac, Obama or McCain, Back to the Future I, II, or III.

  1. This song was cool at the time. The concept that Doggy Style is better than The Chronic is utterly flabbergasting.

  2. People who prefer Back to the Future III can not be trusted.

  3. agreed on “Doggystyle.” smoother production, better rapper (i know Dre’s rhymes are written by others but still,) and no songs as drab as “High Powered” or “Stranded on Death Row.” though “Pump Pump” comes close.

then again, i prefer “2001″ to “The Chronic,” so there you go

  4. did i say “High Powered?” i meant “Lyrical Gangbang.” though to be honest i don’t really like either of ‘em

  5. If Doggystyle dropped before Chronic, I could say it was better, but it didn’t.

  6. The correct answer is Back to the Future II, obviously. Mostly for the lock-down Nikes.

    And the hoverboards.

You have a good point J-Mass. I’m not saying “Chronic” isn’t better, and it’s clearly more “important.” It’s just “Doggystyle” is a whole lot more fun to listen to.

  8. Niggaz4life >> Doggystyle >>> The Chronic. However, Stranded on Death Row is far from drab, needless to say.

  9. doggystyle is a classic but the chronic dwarfs it in terms of being a revolutionary album… it paved the way for the whole g-funk movement of the early to mid 90s and put snoop on the map in the first place… at the point doggystyle came out people were so hungry for an album outta him that snoop coulda farted into a microphone and went platinum… and yea stranded on death row has always been to me one of the hottest songs on the chronic…

  10. isn’t arguing the revolutionary aspect of “the chronic” taking this more in a “chicken/egg” direction? obviously one would not be there without the predecessor, but i like “doggystyle” better. i mean…gin & juice? doggy dogg world? murder was the case? c’mon…

and for that matter, i prefer “back to the future II” to the original, even though i recognize the first place in movie history. lockdown nikes? hoverboards? the 80s cafe servers that talked like max headroom?

You are a very wise man, sir.

  12. In retrospect The Chronic and Doggystyle are a lot more different than they were first made out to be. The former came off as really pollished at the time but really, it’s got a lot of rugged aspects and relatively dirty beats, a couple of smooth singles aside. Doggystyle though…probably the best pop-rap album of all time. The whole Bad Boy sound came out of that record.

Although The Shiznit is still an incredible show of rapping.

  13. i think the dramatics steal the show on this one..and the video with cameos from the likes of Fred Williamson (seen secretly tipping off the doorman) is priceless..
