Judging from the picayune conflicts that consume the brunt of Internet bandwidth, “relaxing” would seem to be an alien alternative. Smiffson gives sage but simple advice: “relax…if you’ve got a dutch, let it crack.” Listen to him–after all, daylight savings is in effect, and “Relax” is spring-time, windows down music. Add a blunt, a beer, and breathe deep. Chill.

Despite his effortless nonchalance, Smiffson never eschews craft. He claims my “swagger don’t make me dope, my rhymes do.” The lyrics barely extend past shit-talking braggadocio, but the rhyme schemes, punchlines, and seamless blend of flow and beat, reveal lapidary gifts. Behind the boards, Disco Vietnam embodies the enigmatic contradiction implied in his name: birthing beats both danceable and destructive. He’s obviously a friend of the blog and occasional contributor, so holler nepotism all you want. It doesn’t change the fact that this is an excellent song.
