Well, Kevin Love is from the clan that made "Surfin USA." Coincidence, I think not.

But that's exactly my point. It was basically ruled out of the competition for arbitrary reasons while a bunch of thoroughly mediocre films get nominated (I haven't seen Slumdog or the Reader so I can't say about them but Benjamin Button, Milk, and Frost/Nixon all were lesser works nominated almost out of default) in the Best Picture category meanwhile an insanely popular film that a lot of critics and moviegoers consider a masterpiece (Tray aside) basically got the shaft because of the source material and the genre. I mean let's be real for a second, are any of these films going to be considered "classics" in five years? The Dark Knight, for or better or worse, already is a classic. That's why it should have won Best Picture and that's why the Oscar's lost my respect this year.

They should have AT LEAST nominated it, and in my opinion, Wall-E and The Wrestler should have been up there too.

I'm saying it's not going to win an Oscar. For better or worse The Academy has a specific ideal The Dark Knight doesn't reach for a myriad of reasons. It's simply not surprising.

"You’re both wrong. The Dark Knight is awesome but it wasn’t nominated because it’s simply a fucking Goliath and ambition can’t be rewarded when it’s handed a blank check. It was recognized for a remarkable performance and its technical achievement, but beyond that you’re pushing it."

So wait, you're basically saying that the Dark Knight can't be rewarded because it was popular and expensive to make? That's not arbitrary.

Oh come on. They didn't nominate it because it was a summer movie, possibly because they realized it sucked (though this seems unlikely given that all the other nominees sucked), possibly because they got creeped out by the arguably pro-Bush surveillance overtones. But mostly because they always nominate stuff that comes out shortly before the Oscars. Not having the balls to nominate it because it was a comic book movie has nothing to do with it, in the past they've nominated Disney cartoons, horror movies, children's movies about pigs, and this year they gave Best Actress to an "I'm an Illiterate Pedophile Who Worked At Auschwitz And Thinks That That's Okay Because I Couldn't Read At The Time So I Had To Take The Job Lest My Shameful Illiteracy Be Exposed Or Some Bullshit Like That" movie. Which you'd think would take way more balls to nominate than a comic book movie.

I sort of boycotted the Oscar's this year when they refused to have the balls to AT LEAST nominate the Dark Knight because it was a comic book movie. All of the films that were nominated in it's stead reeked of "Important Movie From An Important Director"-itis.
