This is something that very rarely happens in rap or r&b these days, we're usually beat over the head somehow - with overdramatic overproduced beats, a studio persona trying way too hard, a lyricist that's way too overconfident in his skills, or just an image/backstory that's way overdetermined. The last song that really blew the fuck up that was this subtly effective was Ciara "Oh." even Ludacris was cautiously restrained on that one.
