Thanks to the real Douglas Reinhardt for reminding me of the classic video for “Flavor of the Month.” This is one of the reasons why the LP for A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing hangs from my wall. More rappers should carry shepherd staffs in their videos.

Those sheep seem frightened and confused.

Well, Mister Lawnge did have an imposing high top fade. I’m wondering if they had to rent sheep twice– once for this video and once for the album cover-or if they did it all in one fell swoop.

The sheep probably figured that one of their own had died in that fade’s creation. Or barring that, for the set’s catering.

Good call…I’ve always felt the Sheep are underappreciated.

The greatest aspect of this song and video is how the music is so subtle and effective at the same time. This is something that very rarely happens in rap or r&b these days, we’re usually beat over the head somehow – with overdramatic overproduced beats, a studio persona trying way too hard, a lyricist that’s way too overconfident in his skills, or just an image/backstory that’s way overdetermined.
The last song that really blew the fuck up that was this subtly effective was Ciara “Oh.” even Ludacris was cautiously restrained on that one.

Great call, Jeff. Yes, this is gold and the album is amazing. I never knew that Mr Lawnge was related to the old guy from Arrested Development (group not show)!
This is one of my fav tracks, but nothing beats Similak Child (album version that is).
