yeah, most of these bands are truly a work-in-progress, but i do think with some of them, the noise is used as a compositional tool rather than something to hide insecurities behind. i think with wavves, it's probably half-and-half. a song like "side yr on" would fall flat without that violent, blown-out guitar sound.

it's hard not to think about what these bands would sound like if they hit an actual studio. times new viking's songs would definitely hold up in a studio. women would probably sound okay, but the lo-fi sound definitely gives their record the edge.

if baby-faced noise-nerds are the new big thing, it might end up being a great year for me. haha.

I don't begrudge any of these bands their success, it's just that they're young and undeveloped and they should be written about as such. The breathless hype lavished upon them is slightly unbearable, particularly considering a band like this exists and is summarily ignored. They've made two excellent albums and what they did with those holiday songs is shockingly great.

it was nice to read your full thoughts on the noise-whatever trend that's going on right now. i don't think i could come up with a thoughtful counter to your opinion; i just know what i like.

i heard wooden shjips signed to sub pop, and i thought they were supposed to do a full album for the label. whether they were or not, i'm wrong for not seeking them out anyway. on first listen to "we ask you to ride," i can tell you that their rhythm section is better than most of my favorite noise bands (unless abe vigoda falls under the category, but they're losing their drummer).
