He's super-influential and successful, obviously, but like I say, new jack - to me - is one of those sounds that just doesn't age so well. In any event, this is really about Dallas Austin, who produced all three of the songs this post was about.

"Teddy - well look, to be honest I haven’t heard 98% of the stuff you just mentioned, but in my opinion new jack swing is one of those sounds that just doesn’t age so well."

Then why do you type with such an authoratative tone? Teddy Riley has classics upon classics, from Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh to Bobby Brown to Blackstreet. Ask any R&B hip hop producer of the past 20 years who is one of the most influential and successful cats, and Teddy Riley is top 3 bar none. Fall back, yo. For real.

Actually I think I've agreed with your last twenty posts. Teddy - well look, to be honest I haven't heard 98% of the stuff you just mentioned, but in my opinion new jack swing is one of those sounds that just doesn't age so well.

"You're right, of course." I can't believe I heard those words emanating from your keyboard. The second time this week too--balancing your vitriol with considered constructive comments is a good look.

Agree, the Timbo/Missy beats are superior, but as a producer I'd put Teddy Riley in a class with Timbaland. Maybe not as high on the all-time list but certainly top 10. I mean, Guy, Blackstreet, Michael Jackson's Dangerous, Wreckx-N-Effect, TLC, SWV. I was actually supposed to interview him for LA Weekly but never got around to it. I need to follow up on that.

"Left Eye > Missy Elliot. Discuss."

You're right, of course, but Timbo >>>>> Dallas Austin, Teddy Riley, etc. Which is why this stuff has largely been forgotten about, and why Missy will be played on the oldies stations of 2040.
