Quan, my bad if I came across harshly. The questions are pretty good. Shit, when I see Pac Div next, which should be pretty soon because their publicist is one of my closest friends, I'll ask 'em.

A blogging friend of mine recently raised an issue with The Knux being featured/implied as an L.A. act. Dudes are from N.O. and relocated, and are meshing in with the emerging scene here in L.A. I'm underwhelmed. My thing is, because they appeal to certain journalists (Jeff, I'm talking about you, your taste is suspect, lol) they get love whereas someone like Crooked I doesn't.

Wow, that was kinda harsh. I mean, I thought it was an interesting issue and I'm still mulling it over. The assertion was that if rap is anything, it is about repping where you're from and expressing the experiences and culture and what-have-you of living in that area. Which seems pretty decently accurate for rap history until you get to the Internet age. So I guess my question should've been, does this still apply? Has it evolved to repping something else or have the rules just been completely broken? What do these new Internet-savvy emcees tell us about this?

Which is yeah, pretty nerdy and pretentious. But I'm a blogger for chrissake.

Quan, your comment's pretty incendiary, but I'll give it a pass because you're bringing up Noz, a character who's not even on my radar.

PacDiv is good music. Period. To take issue about whether they're from L.A. or not is idiotic. Anyone who's lived in L.A. knows that one thing that people here do is move around. I've lived in the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood and San Gabriel Valley - in the same year.

Taking up the issue of whether PacDiv rep L.A. enough is some nerd shit.

Jeff, great interview, particularly how you stuck it to them about the major labels.

I remember Noz took issue with PacDiv because, even though they were from LA, they didn't really rep LA so much as they repped Myspace and the Internet. And I think the same can be said with probably the Knux and Blu. What do you think? Do they need to rep LA more to really be considered LA rappers and/or for us to claim them for the city even?
