I can't believe two hip-hop legends were in competition to see who could break a white reggae star. Skadanks is such a horrible name it's almost charming. Thank god he's been forgotten and can safely work at Wal Mart without fear of recognition. Though I bet whenever he hears someone say "Ska" in the break room a chill runs up his spine.

Doc: Definitely not. I kind of love it too.

Dart: Thanks as always for the knowledge. I didn't know most of that stuff though I was one of those consumers of 12 Inches Of Snow. I remember rather liking it at the time (I was like 11) but I'm curious to hear it now. Too bad I don't have one of those tape to MP3 converters.

The other funny tidbits about this video:

There were two versions made. One with subtitles for the MTV crowd and another for the BET audience. The song was well received (and played first) on BET. After it blew up on MTV it caused a backlash and it became less popular on BET. THEN came "Impostor" on Fox's "In Living Color". His next "video" "Girl I've Been Hurt" (much like Vanilla Ice's "I Love You" featuring SBK labelmates Riff) was an MTV exclusive (read:given the urban music equivalent of Kiss Of Death see: Bell Biv Devoe's "Gangsta").

MC Shan put on the T.Dot native and Snow and Shan struggled to find him a deal. Meanwhile, KRS One had a white kid that chatted and toasted Reggae named Skadanks and signed him to Edutainer Records. Distribution feel through so no deal could happen. Shan suddenly pops up with Snow on BET and Kris loses his shit.

The album "12 Inches Of Snow" was considered meh by most consumers even though it sold fairly well. Snow had to go back to Canada to repair his career and enjoyed some minor hits like "I'd Do Anything For You" featuring Nadine Southerland and appearing with other Canadian Hip Hop acts in features. Most notably "nicing up" Ghetto Concept's 7 Bills All Stars classic "Too Much Remix"/"Still Too Much".

Snow ended up getting scrutinized extra heavy the Vanilla Ice debacle though he DID actually have a jail record. Him and Shan used to boost food and clothing to keep it going during the lean times.

Oh, that brought back memories (obviously!).
