After listening to the godawful hyphy-tinged, “Dreadlocks” that leaked earlier this year, my expectations were severely lowered for Murs for President, the ex-Def Jukie’s major-label debut. But after hearing official first single, “Can It Be,” consider those odds reversed. I’ve been a Murs fan for a long time and this is an instant contender for one of his finest songs, with the hometown native delivering a scathing three minute indictment of everything from the stalled economy, fickle indie-rap fans, to the fact that he lost $50 k on the Paid Dues Tour. Then again, I suppose that’s what you get for booking Sage Francis.

Sage Francis’ music and stage show both make we want to stab dolphins and choke out baby pandas.
Don’t even get me started on Sole!

Y’know I really liked Personal Journals when it came out and still will ride for it, but I just have not been able to listen to the dude since graduating college. I suspect this is the common Sage Francis experience.
As for Sole, Linda Tripp killed his career before it started.

That Dreadlocks song is on Madden 08, so I have heard it a lot and it is one of the better songs on that game soundtrack. That is an indictment of the soundtrack.

Damn….this Murs track sounds like a dope b-side from “MURS Rules the World” when he was angry as shit! I’ve missed that side of Murs on the 9th Wonder albums, which are definitely dope, but this shit KNOCKS like Jehovah’s Witnesses. Great song–I’m super geeked for his new album.

This became one of my favorite hip hop sites in the space of like 2 weeks….thank you for the brainfood and the ear candy.
The only time I’ve seen Sage live he stole the show. Then again he didn’t have much competition…but he was really engaging and entertaining, doing mostly tracks from “Damage”-era…solid damn set.
Then again, whenever I’ve seen Murs live he steals the show from anyone and everyone.
