Don;t get me wrong, I can get down with some jam bands, especially Phish, but Panic? NO FUCKING WAY. All their songs sound EXACTLY the same. They play 30 minute live songs that aren't available on any albums, that you have never heard before, and they do it for entire shows sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I like it when bands pepper their sets with some unavailable tunes, but whole 3 hour shows with music I have never before heard? Not for me. The singers-- alive and dead-- have the worst voices ever. This is pretty much my least favorite band on the planet. Whenever a friend puts their music on-- which is often, unfortunately for me-- i see red. Sometimes it raises eyebrows, but like you said, I think many hate on jam bands just because its easy to and they don't take the time to get into it. I guess the most apt thing to say is that when I want to kick back outside at 5 o'clock on a Friday and have a beer I don't want to listen to fucking Deerhunter.
