My Morning Jacket: Live at Bonnaroo (6-13-08)

Lamentably, I didn’t make it out to this year’s Bonnaroo, but thanks to some enterprising hippies, I’ve wrangled a bootleg of My Morning Jacket’s marathon four-hour set that was reportedly played in the midst of a torrential downpour. I haven’t had the chance to listen to it in its entirety but the sound quality isn’t bad, even if Jim’s voice sounds a bit strained. Naturally, there are covers galore (galore, I tell you), including cuts from Sly & the Family Stone, Erykah Badu, James Brown, Funkadelic, Kool & the Gang, Bobby Womack, the Velvet Underground and uh…Motley Crue. I’m presuming this is as a thanks to Tommy Lee for writing “Highly Suspicious.”

yo Weiss why didn’t you give us a tip-off about your piece in the LA Weekly about Dilla beats? I was waiting for that since you mentioned it earlier, and it was good.

I was actually saving it for a post Monday, complete with some best of Dilla tracks. Glad you liked it though. Thanks.

  3. I learned a valuable festival lesson about partying too hard that day at Bonnaroo. I caught part of the first set, but was tired, saw a little Lord T and Eloise (which was kind of fun), and went back to my tent, where I could hear MMJ take it up a notch or two for the end of the first set and the entire second set.

    I’m still kicking myself.

  4. damn. i wish these guys would actually play a gig in england, rather than falling out with each other and pissing off back home every time they come over.
