I think it matters that Wayne has a "classic" because he's constantly referring himself as the greatest rapper since ever and he doesn't have the same resume as a lot of the other rappers who in some cases aren't even on his level. I mean nobody shits on Ludacris for not having a classic record and that's because he's not going around claiming he's a fucking genius.

I mean let's be for real, are we gonna be talking about Tha Carter III even a year from now...two years from now... a month from now...

Renato:

Exactly my point.

But the position Wayne put himself in with the hype and the mixtapes and the guest apperances and the lack of superstars in rap....good just isn't enough.

I think Common has a couple classics but a bunch of good albums. Same thing with The Roots. Same thing with Scarface, Ghost, Nas, De La Soul. Ain't nuttin wrong with just being really good for a long time. And that ties in my point about "Get it Together"--people stil play that song because it's just a really good song written by 2 legendary acts.

Oh and "The What" is full of so many quotables, you can't hate on it. Both MC's shine incredibly, and it really was the passing of the torch as far NY emcees because it was the first time 2 guys who could spit AND flow at the same time got busy on a big scale. It's totally influential to all upcoming MC's who started in that era.

Who cares if Wayne makes a "classic." It's besides the point. Hip-hop needs to get out of this retarded mindset that artists need that "elusive classic album." It's not what counts. I'd rather Wayne make continue making really good albums than whatever is considered a "classic."

2)Best Event Album: Jay-Z Unplugged with the Roots backing him.

The What is one of the weakest tracks on ready to die. Oh sure it's good and everything, as a collaboration between two great rappers on top of their game couldn't be straight up whack. But on an album as personal as ready to die, it kind of throws everything off, gets you a little out of this world Biggie's creating that's both insular and varied. It's like these are nice rhymes and all but I wanna get further inside this guy's head.

I know I'm late to the party, but am I the only one who thinks Royce shredded "Motown." Elzhi was saying something nice, but my gosh, Royce's flow... unbaweebabol...

"Knock. Knock. Who is that. Its the cat. That'll snap. Throw cheese in the trap. On u homey u a rat. Ha ha ha."

And Lil Weezy, don't you think people are taking him just a lil too seriously? How many times is he rhyming a word with the same word? I mean, opening line of the entire album is
"They cant stop me. Even if they stopped me. Hahaha."

Now, that's just funny, no matter how u cut n paste it. More comedy:
"Whats a ghoul to a goblin? Naw-ting! Naw-ting!"

Good shiet right there. I've killed many a brain cells listening to this album the past week. But I gotta take it for what it is. Entertaining music. The guy is by no means Rakim on the mic, and it just shows where hiphop is at right now that this discussion is even going on between peoples.

Oh and Jay-Z made "Flip Flop Rock" into an EVENT.
