Talk Amongst Yourselves

Kind of a big weekend for the hipping and the hopping (and conversely, the bipping and the bopping). As you are on reading this on the Internet, on a blog, I think it’s safe to say that you have been bumping Carter III and Wale’s Mixtape About Nothing for the past 24 hours. I’ll refrain from dropping some inchoate, half-assed thoughts at the moment (I’ll save that for next week), but thankfully, this is what the comments section is for. Also, Jay Electronica’s “Bitches and Drugs” video dropped and in its Pink Floyd thievery, it might be one of my favorites of the year. So play like Linda Richman and coffee tawk in the comments section. Here, I’ll start. The Holy Roman Empire was neither holy nor Roman nor an empire. Discuss.

Lil’ Wayne didn’t do much for me. The Custom Made “Original Dynasty” album followed by “The Mixtape About Nothing” cleaned the gunk out of my ears as well.
I have two words for Hip Hop heads this Summer:
Shawn Jackson
One.

as good as 100 miles and running was, the mixtape about nothing smashes it into bits. way better beats, more intricate rhymes, more thought and substance… it’s better in every category i can think of. i don’t want to get the hype machine revving, but it’s at least as good as europass, and perhaps even better.

There’s about a five song stretch on Carter III where I thought Wayne was about to pull it off and then Lollipop hits and it completely falls apart like a Cleveland sports team.
As for Wale… If mixtapes were actually albums…. Album Of The Year. Sickeningly good.

Wayne has never killed anything except brain cells. I think he is about as good at rapping as Puff Daddy. At least Diddy has the sense to get a ghostwriter.
Seriously, I am done with tolerating Lil Wayne fans. He is terrible.
