It boggles my mind everytime I hear this MMJ Fleet Foxes comparison. I see it every time I read about the foxes, but nobody has ever explained it to me. Could someone fill me in, because I just don't see it (aside from the vocal similarities of the two frontmen, like DM said)

i know we're going to be at odds over this, weiss, but fleet foxes > at dawn. EASILY. the only similarities i hear between the two bands are the voices of the frontmen [and, of course, the use of reverb].

"* The word “hipster,” of course, only being meaningless when used to potentially describe me."

oh, if only the other 99% of people using "hipster" as an Internets pejorative were also in on the joke. alas, they (and I don't exclude myself) continue to muddle on in the sad belief that if we call other other people hipster douchebags it will make us invulnerable. I, like Floodwatch, don't care about any of the above acts* but I'm glad that you do, Mr. Weiss - music journalism would be a more better place if more people could discuss both indie rock & Ghostface (credibly, that is - No Breihan).

*though I like plenty of new music - it's just mostly dubstep, grime or techno. oh, and tons of old jungle records circa 93-95 but those aren't new

Mykonos is so good it hurts.

No question Finn is the man. "In barlight she looked alright, in daylight she looked desperate." Are you fucking kidding me??? Awesome.

Check out the Lykke Li remix by Fred Falke. Makes a good song better.

JB, I have no idea why everyone is ripping on the MMJ album. It might not be their masterpiece but it's at worst a noble failure, at best a compelling and interesting turn towards a new sound. People should be applauding that sort of thing, especially when we have Fleet Foxes around to re-record At Dawn.

p.s. craig finn has got to be one of the ten best lyricists in music right now. rap included.

p.p.s. we all know how i feel about the fleet foxes and no age records, but that times new viking record is nuts.

I think it means you've been listening to too much Rush.

Knowing your tastes you might like about half this stuff. The other half would have you begging for mercy. No Tony Yayo.

1. What's everyone mad about the new MMJ record for? That song is pretty good. I suspect this is like Rilo Kiley all over again.

2. No Age sound better than I remembered. Then again, I did always think "Ripped Knees" was better than No Age.

3. I need to revisit that Fleet Foxes record.

4. How have I not noticed how good the Mae Shi is?

5. "The Healer" = great song.

6. Black Keys are good, but "Strange Times" is the real standout on that album.

Well done, Jeff. Like your rap muxes, this is some great listening.
