What's even stranger is that this was just one part of the oft-forgotten cowboy trend in hip hop in the late 90s. Jeru did "Black Cowboys", Heltah Skeltah had that video where they were, um, rapping in a tee-pee in full Native American regalia. Sadat X had an entire freakin' cowboy album. The best, though, was definitely "Cowboy" by the Fugees - ridiculously great beat plus killer guest spots from personal favorite, the vastly underrated Outsidaz. I also like the way they flipped it in the video so they were watching their "Western" in a theater - not surprising since they were probably on some self-aware tip that BTNH most definitely were not.

Great call, Dart (way to fuck up my thesis). For someone who has heard "Ya Mama" 3,121 times I should've remembered that. Though this still may be the only time this was used un-ironically. You need to write a book. And soon.

Aside from their big singles, I never got into Bone Thugs, Mo' Thugs, Flesh-N-Bone, T-Bone Burnett, or that show on Fox "Bones."

I distinctly remember this video on Rap City and looking for a jar of rat poison to swallow when I first saw and heard the "rhymes" of Powder P. He looked like one of the white kids that was trying to score some raw at the beginning of "Training Day." And his voice is that of every shitty contestant at Scribble Jam. He makes Joe Scudda sound like Jay Electronica.
