@ Padraig:

The name of that JME and Skepta joint is "officially" "Serious Thugs". I played it to death when I first downloaded it off of LimeWire years ago.

A couple years back Skepta and JME (two of grime's "biggest" names - they run the premier grime label, Boy Better Know) had an underground hit with a remake of "Thuggish Ruggish", sped-up considerably so the hook sounded all chipmunk-style. I remember being pleasantly surprised hearing that song pop up on some mixtape after not hearing Bone Thugs in a long, long time. Actually, I wouldn't say there's a direct connection, but the whole super-fast double-time flow of most grime MCs probably owes something to BTNH.

Growing up in Cleveland, I've got to say that anybody who uses "C-Town" regardless of color sounds fucking stupid.

BTNH are the group, though.

BDING: As I say in the piece, the lyrics and look aren't original. The vocal style of Bone Thugs is what makes it original. It's not like NWA were rapping in double-time with barbershop harmonies. Except for Ren. He was into that sort of thing.

Everything was on point but one thing - Do or Die's hit was simply "Po Pimp". It's straight P-I-M-P-ology.
