Paris, Tokyo. Not a Fiasco
Too early to tell, but I’m thinking The Cool might almost live up to the high praise Dart Adams and The Rap Up have thrown at it. It’s not album of the year good, but it’s good. Maybe great. As for “Paris, Tokyo?” It’d certainly be in my top 10 if I were going to do it again. It kind of sounds like a lost outtake from Midnight Marauders. (Even though Lupe would probably tell you it was inspired by Eightball & MJG)

Lupe sucks, his first single from this album is bullshit. Not really a fan of glam rap even if it’s intended to be ironic.

This is the best Emo-R&B Rap album ever. If Lupe wants to have a career, he needs to keep Matt Santos away from his hooks and come up with a few of his own. Paris, Tokyo is the best shit on there by far.

Santos does need to go. Have you seen the guy’s faux hawk? I’m alright with the R&B thing if dude wants to try to sell records but goddamn it’s not like Bilal’s doing anything. I’Hell, bring in Blue Raspberry, RZA’s not doing anything with her.

It would be really awesome if this album sprouted a weird, unbathed cult in ten years

[…] over the last year, there’s no resisting the charms of this laid back, summer-infused cut. Jeff’s already noted the irony of this sounding like an outtake from Midnight Marauders, and it’s a fitting description that emphasises the quality of this song. Given it’s […]
