I've listened to all 3 vaticans. I'm not comparing the level of dopeness of those releases to any of Lil' Wayne's shitty, bi-weekly triple disc mixtape releases.

My gripe is that Raekwon is bitching about RZA's musical direction on the new Clan album, but he's rapped over some hot garbage on all three Vaticans, plus his last 2 studio albums. Raekwon as an MC is a ridiculous wordsmith who's WAY WAY WAY better than Lil' Wayne. I'm just saying both Rae and Wayne lack quality control when it comes to mixtape material. On the last Vatican mixtape, of the 20+ tracks, I've replayed about 7.

i dont think comparing the vatican mixtapes to lil wayne's output is fair at all, there have only been 3 of them to date and most people i know agree with me that theyre all pretty dope. have you heard the vatican 3 joint?

Doug:

It's a funny thing with Canibus; his second album was EXACTLY what everyone wanted from his first album--straight, raw beats with infinite science geek battle rhymes for 60 minutes. (I bought the bootleg because "2000 B.C." was delayed FOR-EV-ER and still went out and bought the retail version because I was a Stan like that.)

And yet....no one gave a shit. The same thing was kinda true about Ras Kass' "Rasassination" except he was trying to go platinum. I think Canibus realized people didn't want to hear him rhyming from the perspective of an egg reaching an embryo while R&B chicks whaled on the hook--we just wanted to hear him talk about 5,000 degrees of microwattage fiber optics.

We were dorks.

of course, a shitload of valid points.

but why i'm really here is to geek out: dude, zilla: my first bootleg was that canibus joint, too! i remember the critics panning it when it came out, but in retrospect, it's probably the only decent canibus album ever made.

I saw American Gangster about a good three weeks before it was ever released in theatres (and not through a hard copy) and I heard the American Gangster advance a good 10 days before it dropped. I'm completely numb to it now and that's sad. I'll tell you how Southland Tales is...in a few hours.

Zilla...Rock, rock on!

A-One:

I was offered the bootleg to both the album and the movie about 17 times the week before both dropped. I'm just as broke as the next man, so I don't hate on people that wanna save $20, but COME ON--these were both great products. I give the movie a 7.5/10 and the album 8.5/10.

I avoided the bootleg of American Gangster (the film). I wanted to see it in the theatre for pretty much all the same reasons you listed. My girl kept mentioning that she coulda seen the movie 3 days prior cuz her mom bought the bootleg so I had to comment. She got defensive.
