Three points: 1) "Bjergen Kjergen from Knuergen near the Bjoergen fjords" sound Norwegian, all the way, 2) "popular" is "populär" in Swedish, ergo indeed not a four-letter word, 3) I'm not even Swedish.

Duke - You hit the nail right on the head... I do nothing BUT "keep it real," at least when I'm not writing pretentious pop songs in my spare time.

I'll be sure to check with you first before I decide to dislike a simple pop band.

I agree Weiss, I was very impressed by the set. They were so much bigger (in stage presence) than even at Coachella and the sound really did fill the room. I thought to myself, they could fill an even bigger stage.
But I dont know if they should accept the inevitable - play with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra proposal - yet, maybe after the next album's #1 single.

i don't think anybody should have to defend themselves for liking PB&J. are bloggers so fucking pretentious (i'm looking at you floodwatch) that they can't enjoy simple song structures? i mean how complex was robert johnson? or hank williams? or johnny cash? i most be a complete simpleton, because i never get sick of them. i don't have an overpriced degree in music composition, but based on empirical evidence, writing a great pop song that crosses over to all types of people isn't that easy. if it is, i bet floodwatch would spend less time commenting on blogs and more time writing pop songs. i guess he's too busy keeping it real.

Well...obviously their lyrics lack depth, but I'm not comparing them with Radiohead or Sunset Rubdown or something. I'm comparing them to Timberlake, Maroon 5 and Fall Out Boy and by contrast, I think they're very very good. Like I said, it's pop music. There's only so deep you can get before it gets too complicated to get played on TRL.

But I promise they can really fucking play their instruments. Really.

With the right amount of training a monkey could write and competently play these guys' songs, such is the depth and predictability of their songwriting. Seriously, you don't find yourself bored by the second or third listen?

Great write-up either way, Weiss.
