Thanks for the downloads. Lots of stuff I haven't heard of before. Looking forward to the 3/4-year list.

I can't argue with you to much, although I haven't heard that Dalek. I would include the Evidence in the top 10.

The only albums I've played pretty much non stop this year has been the El-P and the Juggaknots, which was released last year but I didn't really listen to it until late late December

Like Commish said, Senim was 1/2 of Binary Star, the other half being One Be Lo aka One Man Army. Lo is supposed to drop 2 releases this year - 1 is being called a "mixtape" for legal reasons and the other will be an "official" album on Fat Beats. His last album on Fat Beats S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. made a lot '05 Top 10 lists. Holler if you want a copy of SONOGRAM to check out.

Silla was 1/2 of Binary Star from awhile back. Another Detroit MC, who all seem to be hitting their peaks at the same time.

Doug: Funny about the Black Milk, I had the opposite rxn. At first, I was like "this is what all the hypes about." But those beats are just so good and not many producers can rap that well. Bar Exam is great, as is Royce, I wish his profile was higher. ISWYD might take a dozen listens, but when it clicks its worth it.

Commish: haven't heard Senim Silla? What's his deal? 07's been weird. I don't think there have been any classic records other than maybe the El, but there's been a lot of B+'s/4 mic type records.

Zilla/Dart/Dan: thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.

Nice overview Jeff, I'll look forward to the Marco Polo review later in the week. Few bits and pieces here I'm yet to check: I'm on it.

Take it easy,

Dan

Damn good list you got up there. I always hear people crying about there are no new hip hop albums being released and and not enough quality mixtapes are dropping...I always ask them "Who are you listening to?" and run off a list of releases from the year so far and all they do is look at me as if I were on crack and ask "Who are THOSE people?/When did all of those releases drop?"

One.

Weiss:

I've been fiending for that Phat Kat for a few weeks...if only my local record store carried it, I'd be set. Between that, Royce and Black Milk, the post-Dilla Detroit scene is hot to death right now! I'm definitely on their jock.

Thanks for the honorable mention. Just to be mentioned alongside Joell Ortiz, Evidence and Prodigy is good enough for Clean Guns.
