YES! Great post, Weiss.

It seems like once a year when I hear this song, I think about how innovative it was--a song like this will never come out again. Humpty Hump isn't allowed to exist in hip hop anymore because 50 Cent would diss him and clown him. God forbid people have fun while not waxing their chest and threatening to slap a mothaf*cka over wrestling/rap beef.

I doubt critics praised DU or "The Humpty Dance" back in the early 90s, but they sure are quick to worship at the altar of today's mainstream "bizarro" pop. We have the polished, calculated wannabe "quirky, catchy and fresh" stylings of Will.i.am to hold us over with "Fergalicious," not to mention Gwen Stefani's entire solo catalogue.

Everytime I hear "My Humps" I tell em, STEP OFF I'M DOING THE HUMP!

yes yes yall, excellent review. This is a classic CD, even one that shorties today I think would enjoy. I can remember when it was released, all us "real" Hip Hoppers were jamming this and PE's Fear Of A... while all the suckas were thinking MC Hammer invented rap.

As far as Pac, "Same Song" was his DU debut. I beleive he had a verse or two on The Body Hat Syndrome. Also, I think if you look real close he's dancing in the Humpty video.

Was Tupac on that one or was he already out of DU by then? I know he was on "This is an EP" as MC New York.

I couldn't agree more - "Humpty Dance" really is the greatest party song of all time. Have you ever met anyone who just flat-out dislikes that song?
