Yeah, they're definitely my pick for one of the best current Canadian bands (keeping in mind the fact that I only like about half of Funeral and have yet to be able to get all the way through a Wolf Parade song without wanting to punch someone; still, I think you'd probably like them) (also, I only say "one of the" because of my beloved Readymade), as well as one of my favourite live acts ever - I've seen them 5-6 times, and even on off nights they are magic.

I'm about to go to work, but check out the Old School thread on the Stylus boards tonight, Jeff - I'll hook you up. I just have to decide which album. What song have you heard?

You know I was really not a fan of Boeckner's stuff when I first got the album but it's really grown on me. I'm happy that you agree with me about Krug. I think the only songwriter right now that can compete with him is Craig Finn or Aesop Rock. But I think Boeckner is a essential for the band's hope at getting any sort of mainstream following. "Shine a Light," or "This Heart's On Fire," are outstanding songs that you could play even sorority girls and they'd like it. But if you played them "Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts" you could clear the same room in minutes. They might turn into the Outkast of indie rock with Krug playing Andre and Boeckner playing the role of Big Boi. You never know.

Kalibleek: Man, don't be embarrassed about that, cuz if it wasn't for the advent of Napster during my Freshman year of college I would probably be in the same boat as you. Having exposure to all of that music for free made me open to listening to anything and everything. All it takes is a little exposure. Hit up all of the MP3 blogs that Mr. Weiss links to. That should be a good start.

Spencer Krug might be the best songwriter or musical jack of all trades out there right now.

I'm anxious to see what kind of record the other lead singer in Wolf Parade does, if he does one at all.

It's posts like these that make me wish I wasn't so stubborn when it came to music.

The closest I think I've gotten to rock music is (seriously) Tenacious D, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park.

And I can't believe I actually admitted to listening to those groups in public.

I've just heard one song from The Constantines. I liked it. Are they worth checking out? Are they your pick for best new band? Details please.

And yeah...I actually think BRMC is solidly above average. They're pretty damned good live but it's just impossible to not be comparing the two after we saw that show on Friday. That might've been the best show I've seen all year.

You already know how much I agree with you since I too was at the show with you enjoying every moment of brilliance.

Almost as brilliant as Weiss in our brilliant BBall League comeback on Sunday...

The only difficult thing is trying to check out average bands after seeing WP. Take our experience trying to sit through that BMRC set at Sunset Junction the following day. We just didn’t have the patience for it.

And nice job with the small wonder references...hahahaha
